Between October 7 and 8, the 16th version of the AWP Annual Conference was held in Houston, Texas, United States, organized by the Advanced Work Packaging Community of Practice – North America.

The event, which was attended by more than 400 people, was attended by Saul Sangama, AWP Leader of Mining Projects, and Rodrigo Manríquez, BIM Coordinator of Mining Projects, from the offices of Pares & Alvarez in Peru and Chile, respectively, who highlighted the instance as an invaluable space for the confirmation of the company’s strategy for the implementation of the AWP (Advanced Work Packaging) methodology.

The technical program included more than 40 presentations by authors from 10 countries and more than 24 working sessions where practical cases applied to different sizes of industries, use of AWP support technology, data management, culture and personnel, and waste flow and reduction were addressed.

During the congress, topics such as the integration of equity and inclusion in project management, the approach to address future developments, trends in the AWP environment, and the impact of this methodology on improving results were reviewed. The incorporation of virtual construction models to optimize project execution was also explored.

According to the representatives of Pares&Alvarez from Chile and Peru, one of the most relevant aspects of the congress was “the identification of elements that complement our internal process improvement plan, in order to generate added value in each project we lead. These include: the effective implementation of AWP in project development, which requires a level of maturity in the organizations involved (owners, consultants, and contractors); the integration of technologies to manage dynamic information; and the training and transversal development of the team, supported by experts in AWP methodologies”.
