Our History

The company was founded in 1994 in Concepción, Biobío region, by José Parés and Javier Álvarez, who had the vision of entrepreneurship in an area that, at that time, was dominated by foreign companies. This is how, from its beginnings, Pares&Alvarez set itself the goal of guaranteeing productivity and efficiency, through a relationship with its customers based on commitment, flexibility and transparency, which has allowed it to develop solid and permanent relationships.

Chemical Civil Engineer from the Universidad de Concepción, businessman and regional advisor of the Sociedad de Fomento Fabril (SOFOFA). He was a founding partner of the engineering consulting firm Pares&Alvarez, of which he is currently chairman of the board. He is partner and president of Buses Hualpén, a family business with more than 40 years of experience, and was president of the board of directors of Clínica Sanatorio Alemán, the main private clinic in Concepción. He is a shareholder and director of Naviera Frasal, which operates more than 25 vessels in the maritime logistics of the salmon industry.

He is a Civil Engineer with a major in hydraulics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds an MBA from the same university. He is currently the General Manager of Echeverría Izquierdo Montajes Industriales (EIMISA) and for more than 3 years he led the team of Echeverría Izquierdo Soluciones Industriales (EISI). He has more than 20 years of experience in Echeverría Izquierdo, holding different positions.

He is a civil Industrial Engineer of Universidad Técnica del Estado, today Universidad de Santiago de Chile. For 17 years he was an executive of Codelco, of which 7 years were spent in London, United Kingdom, where he oversaw the commercial office of the copper company. During that period, he became a member of the board of directors of the London Metal Exchange (LME) between 1990-1993, a position he reached by a vote of the 200 members of that market. Towards the end of the 1990s, he left the state-owned company to join Antofagasta Minerals, where he became CEO at the end of 2004 and remained in the position until 2012. In the middle of that same year, he became president in Chile of the multinational solar energy company Millennium Energy Industries.

Director of P&A, he studied Industrial Civil Engineering with a major in chemistry at the Universidad Católica de Chile, was national director of the Instituto de Normalización Previsional (INP) between 1990 and 1994, vice-president of administration and finance of Codelco-Chile between 1994 and 1996, and executive president of the same company between 1996 and 2000. In addition to his functions in the public sector, he has worked as a consultant for several companies and projects through CIS Consultores. In 2000 he was designated by the Copper Club, based in New York, as The Copper Man of the Year, receiving the ANKH award for his contribution to the world’s red metal industry. In 2010 he was nominated by President Michelle Bachelet to join the board of Codelco-Chile and was ratified by Sebastián Piñera in May 2011. He left the position definitively in 2015.

Pares&Alvarez CEO since January 2017, he joined the company in 1998, holding the position of Head of Processes. In 2000 was he appointed as Engineering Manager, a position that would hold for 16 years. In that time was responsible for ensuring the development of people, the optimization of resources and the fulfillment of objectives of the area.

With more than 38 years of work experience and twenty-six working in the company, he has developed technical, administrative, and business skills, contributing to the growth, diversification and development of the strategy and business of Pares&Alvarez.

Chemical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción and representative of Chile in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the rowing team, he has led and developed more than one hundred projects in different industries.

Marketing & Business Development Manager

A Chemical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción and an MBA from the Pontificia Universidad Católica, since 2017 has leading the Business and Marketing area, from where he consolidated the company's presence in the mining sector and promoted the internationalization of Pares&Alvarez with the opening of offices in Peru and Australia.

With more than 28 years of experience, he began working at the company in 1997 as a Process Engineer. During his career he has assumed distinct roles associated with engineering, consulting, and projects, until reaching his current position. Between September 2012 and June 2013, he was project manager of the "Expansion of the CMPC Plywood Plant" (EPCM engineering, construction management and procurement), with an investment of USD$125 MM.

He has developed and directed more than four hundred projects, related to evaluation, market research, cost estimation, process optimization, basic and detail engineering, contract development and administration, tender development, and negotiation.

A Chemical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción, he joined Pares&Alvarez in 1995 as a Project Engineer, playing a key role in the development of studies and engineering within the field of energy and petrochemicals. In 2000, he assumed the head of the Process Engineering Unit, leading a multidisciplinary team of more than thirty professionals and managing basic engineering projects with a high standard of quality and efficiency.

Since 2010, he has been responsible for the Consulting and Processes Area, where he leads a group of more than 150 employees, consolidating Pares & Alvarez's position as a benchmark in the development of industrial projects. Throughout his 28-year career with the company, he has participated in more than 450 projects, bringing his experience and technical knowledge to drive growth and innovation in the company.

His commitment to excellence and quality in work is a fundamental pillar in his management, always focused on identifying new opportunities for the development of engineering in Chile and abroad.

Pares&Alvarez Corporate Project Manager since January 2019, he is an Industrial Civil Engineer from the Catholic University of the Holy Conception and in his current position he is responsible for leading the team in charge of project management, both greenfield and brownfield, covering the management from the control of engineering, purchasing, contract tenders,  construction management and commissioning.

He joined the company in October 2010 as Head of Project Control and then assumed the role of Project Manager. During his career he has participated in more than sixty projects in industries such as mining, energy, and oil & gas, among others. He has a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the Adolfo Ibáñez University.

Mining Development Manager

Metallurgical Civil Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in Metallurgical Engineering and Processes. Graduated from the University of Santiago de Chile, with a Diploma in Mineral Economics from the University of Chile.

He joined the company in 2019 as Mining Development Manager, where he has led mining projects in copper hydrometallurgy. He has served as a project advisor and has held executive positions in areas of development of mining megaprojects in mineral concentration.

Qualified by the Mining Commission of Chile in the Registry of Competent Persons in Mining Resources and Reserves, No. 0349.

Environmental Manager since 2019, he is a Civil Chemical Engineer from the University of Concepción and has a master’s degree in environmental engineering and management from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. She has been with the company for more than 20 years, where she has led and coordinated various areas, highlighting his work in conceptual engineering and Project Manager in the Consulting Management between 2007 and 2014.

With the experience acquired, Claudia assumes as Project Manager for Environmental Impact Statements and Studies and Leader of Specialties, coordinating biologists, geographers, and field surveys for the Environmental Management.

Prior to assuming her current responsibilities, she was Deputy Manager of Operations in the Environmental Management Unit, where she coordinated the execution of the area's projects, management indexes, resource planning, coordination and required services.

With more than 20 years in the company, Ricardo has contributed to Pares&Alvarez from distinct positions, starting as a Process Engineer, then moving up to Project Manager and Operational Excellence Manager. He is currently He is currently Engineering Manager, where he leads a team of more than 400 professionals.

He has developed and led multidisciplinary projects at national and international level, from conceptual engineering to leading the programming and execution of commissioning and start-up. He has experience in process design, detail engineering, procurement, CAPEX, engineering project management, personnel training, and process optimization.

A Chemical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción and a diploma in Project Management in the Digital Age from the Universidad de los Andes, he has carried out projects between US$1 MM and US$100 MM in the areas of mining, energy, gas, oil and chemical industry.

Electronic Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción and Master in Administration and Business (MBA) from the Adolfo Ibáñez University, he currently serves as Director of Engineering Projects, responsible for the team of project managers of the Engineering Area, where his objectives are to maximize profitability as well as to ensure the optimal conditions for maximum performance and development of the human potential of his team.

With more than 21 years of experience in the sector, he has participated and led in more than two hundred multidisciplinary projects and management of EPC and EPCM projects, in industries such as mining, chemical, oil, gas and forestry.

Country Manager in Perú, his mission is to position and consolidate the company's presence in the Andean country as an important provider of engineering and consulting services for the mining sector and other productive sectors such as gas, oil, and energy.

Mechanical engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the mining and hydrocarbons sector; his experience includes commercial and mining project management in the various stages of engineering, and project execution and control, including cost control as well as contract administration.

He studied at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, has a specialization in finance at ESAN Peru and a diploma in Project Management under the PMI approach from the National University of Engineering of Peru.

With 20 years of experience, Héctor, a chemical civil engineer from the University of Concepción and a master's degree in energy and combustion from the University of Adelaide, has led and participated in the management of projects in the areas of Conceptual, Feasibility and Basic Engineering, and has assumed the coordination of disciplines and the leadership of processes for the development of Detail engineering projects.

Until recently, was the Technical Director of the Consulting area, actively participating in the execution of all the company's strategic projects, carrying out planning and control activities, coordination of work teams and management of technical solutions.
