Pares&Alvarez contributes to Planning for Closure 2026, highlighting its mine closure and post-closure expertise
Pares&Alvarez took part in Planning for Closure 2026, an international conference held in Santiago, Chile, bringing together industry leaders, operators, consultants and technical specialists to discuss the key challenges associated with mine closure and long-term post-closure management.
As part of the technical programme, Victoria Vásquez, Mine Closure Specialist at Pares&Alvarez, delivered a presentation on the sensitivity of post-closure funds to variations in maintenance frequency. Her presentation explored how these factors can influence long-term financial and operational planning, a critical consideration for the sustainability and viability of closure strategies.
Representing the company at the event were also Claudia Goza, Environment Manager, and Cristian Weissmann, Mining Business Development Manager, reinforcing Pares&Alvarez’s active participation in one of the sector’s most important technical and strategic forums.
The conference brought together more than 450 professionals from 16 countries and featured over 100 technical presentations and plenary sessions, providing a valuable platform for sharing industry knowledge, emerging trends and practical case studies related to mine closure.
Key topics included long-term monitoring, risk management, land-use planning and sustainability, reflecting the industry’s growing focus on integrated solutions that consider the full lifecycle of mining operations.
One of the conference’s key takeaways was the recognition that mine closure should no longer be viewed as the final stage of a project, but rather as a process that must be integrated from the earliest phases of design and development. This approach requires ongoing planning, predictive tools and decision-making aligned with technical, environmental, social and economic considerations.
With more than 5,800 engineering projects delivered across multiple industries, Pares&Alvarez supports mining developments throughout their entire lifecycle, from environmental permitting, studies and engineering through to project delivery, closure planning and post-closure management. Through its multidisciplinary teams in Chile and Peru, the company provides integrated solutions that help mining companies address increasingly complex technical, environmental and regulatory challenges.
Participation in events such as Planning for Closure 2026 reinforces Pares&Alvarez’s commitment to delivering sustainable, practical and technically robust solutions that create long-term value for the mining industry.
