One example of this is chloride leaching, a process that allows for the recovery of up to 80% of the copper contained in secondary sulfides, extending the useful life of hydrometallurgical operations and making low-grade resources profitable with more limited investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Pares&amp;Alvarez, we have partnered with clients such as Antofagasta Minerals and Codelco in the evaluation, design, and execution of projects of this type, contributing our expertise in constructability, cost optimization, and detailed technical analysis. The knowledge gained from projects such as the Zald\u00edvar mine has strengthened our ability to develop solutions that balance investment, operational efficiency, and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to our estimates, converting an existing hydrometallurgical plant to a chloride leaching process may require an investment of approximately US$200 million to US$300 million, compared to the more than US$3 billion required for a conventional concentrator. In addition to its recovery advantages, the process is competitive in terms of operating costs, reducing energy consumption, water use, and the need for tailings disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt Pares&amp;Alvarez Peru, we see a great opportunity for the regional mining industry to explore these types of technological alternatives. Chloride leaching not only represents savings in CAPEX and OPEX but also offers shorter implementation timelines, allowing projects to adapt quickly to industry challenges.
